- Traditional-method sparkling wine
Grapes of Franciacorta
Lombardy's premier traditional-method sparkling wine, made in the same painstaking way as Champagne.
Franciacorta, in Lombardy near Lake Iseo, is Italy's answer to Champagne: sparkling wine made by the traditional method, with the second fermentation and extended lees aging happening in the bottle. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir lead the blends, sometimes with Pinot Blanc.
The wines are elegant and refined, with fine bubbles and notes of citrus, orchard fruit, bread, and almond. Long lees aging — often exceeding the minimums required — gives the best bottles genuine depth and complexity.
Production is recorded by region, not by appellation.
