Winography is a personal, non-commercial project. It has no accounts, no logins, no newsletter, and no ads. It does not sell data, because it collects almost none. This page explains the little that it does.

What stays in your browser

When you take a quiz, your scores and progress are saved in your browser's own local storage under a key named winography-quiz-stats-v1. Your theme choice (light or dark) is stored the same way. This information never leaves your device and is never sent to us or anyone else. You can erase it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for winography.net.

What we measure

Winography uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are visited and how the site performs. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and reports usage information — including your approximate location and IP address — to Google, which processes it on our behalf. We use this only to see what's working and what isn't. We do not use it for advertising, and there are no ad networks on the site.

If you would rather not be measured, you can block analytics with a browser extension or your browser's built-in tracking protection, and the site will work exactly the same.

Other services the site relies on

A few parts of the site load content from third parties as you browse. Each of these can see your IP address, the way any web server does when your browser requests a file from it:

• Netlify hosts the site and keeps standard server access logs.
• Google Analytics (analytics), as described above.
• flagcdn.com serves the small country flag images on the countries pages.
• jsDelivr serves the map subdivision data used on the regional map pages.

The fonts are served from the site itself, so your browser does not contact a font provider.

Links out

Winography links to outside sites — Wikipedia, the University of Adelaide, the Vitis International Variety Catalogue, and others. Once you follow a link, you're on their turf, under their privacy practices, not ours.

Where visitors are

Winography is run from the United States and is intended for a general audience. If you're in the European Union or another region with data-protection laws such as the GDPR, those laws may give you rights over the limited information described above — including the right to ask what is held and to object to analytics. Children

The site isn't directed at children and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this notice changes, the date at the top will change with it. Material changes will be reflected here rather than announced, since there's no mailing list to announce them on.
