Grapes of Bairrada
An Atlantic-influenced region in central Portugal defined by the tannic Baga grape.
Bairrada lies near Portugal's Atlantic coast, its maritime climate and heavy clay-limestone soils setting it apart from the country's warmer inland regions. The signature grape is Baga — thick-skinned, high in acid and tannin, and capable of long-lived, structured reds that can be austere in youth but reward patience.
The same bright acidity makes Bairrada a natural home for traditional-method sparkling wine, a long-standing local specialty. Modern winemaking has softened Baga's harder edges while preserving the region's distinctive freshness and aging capacity.
Production is recorded by region, not by appellation.
