Wines of United States

Wine production in the United States started in the 16th century with Spanish missionaries in present-day California. The industry expanded in the 18th and 19th centuries, but Prohibition (1920-1933) caused a major setback. The U.S. is now the fourth-largest wine producer, with California leading the way, producing varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel.
