Wines of Japan

Wine production in Japan began in the late 19th century during the Meiji era, when the government encouraged Western-style winemaking. The industry has grown steadily, with Japanese wines gaining international recognition in recent decades. Japan is known for its Koshu grape, a unique pink-skinned variety grown primarily in Yamanashi Prefecture, alongside Muscat Bailey A and international varieties.
