Wines of Georgia

Georgia is widely considered the birthplace of wine, with archaeological evidence of winemaking dating back approximately 8,000 years. The country's traditional qvevri method, using large clay vessels buried underground for fermentation and aging, was designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2013. Georgia is home to over 500 indigenous grape varieties, including Saperavi and Rkatsiteli.
