Wines of Algeria

Wine production in Algeria began under French colonial rule in the 19th century, rapidly expanding to make Algeria one of the world's largest wine exporters by the early 20th century. After independence in 1962, the industry contracted significantly due to Islamic cultural influences and the loss of French markets. Today, Algeria maintains a modest wine industry concentrated in regions like Médéa, Tlemcen, and Mascara, producing both red and white wines.
